Our Philosophy

• How does learning happen? A child learns through playing. At Grandma Gooch, our role is to set up an optimal environment that children naturally seek, regardless of age, ability, culture, or setting. Through day to day playing in this environment, children feel belonging, well-being, engaging, and expression. 

At Grandma Gooch, we provide an open-ended, learn-through-play program implemented throughout different centers in each room. Staff work with the children to develop meaningful activities and learning stories by:

Building positive relationships: nurturing relationships between children, educators, and families fosters a sense of belonging and security

Promoting holistic development: addressing all aspects of a child’s development (social, emotional, physical, creative, and cognitive).

Encouraging exploration and play: creative a stimulating environment, rich in open-ended materials, encourages children to explore, experiment, and learn through play.

Valuing children’s ideas and contributions: when children feel their ideas are valued, they are more likely to be engaged and motivated to learn.
